Continuing its efforts to strengthen cultural bonds and support artistic collaboration, the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Bangkok arranged for Harshi Batik, a Sri Lankan artisan, to participate in a specialized training program on traditional Thai batik. This program was conducted by Phaya Batik and Phaya Paint Batik in Thailand, renowned for their expertise in upholding and modernizing the ancient art of batik.
The training program provided Harshi Batik with the opportunity to explore the techniques and customs of Thai batik. Emphasizing the shared cultural legacy of both nations, the initiative aimed to promote collaboration between Sri Lanka and Thailand in the field of textile art. Through practical sessions and expert instruction, Harshi Batik learned about distinct Thai batik patterns, dyeing methods, and innovations, enhancing her knowledge of Sri Lanka’s own batik traditions.
