Prime Minister thanks Chinese Government for supplying full school uniforms for 2025

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya expressed gratitude on behalf of the government to the Chinese Government for providing uniforms to children in every school and Pirivena in the country for the year 2025.

Dr. Harini Amarasuriya made this statement while attending the school uniforms donation event for the year 2025.

At the event, the Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Mr. Key Zheng Hong, symbolically handed over the school uniforms donated by the Chinese Government to the Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, on the 10th of November at the International Container Terminal at the Colombo Port.

The total requirement for school uniforms for 2025 is 11.817 million meters of fabric, serving 4,640,086 students. The People’s Republic of China generously provided the entire fabric needed for school uniforms in 2025 as a donation.

The fabric will be delivered in three shipments, with the first and second shipments already in Sri Lanka. The third shipment is expected to arrive on December 25.

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya emphasized the importance of education in the country and the government’s commitment to prioritizing education. She mentioned that education is crucial for development and highlighted the government’s efforts to ensure access to education for all children regardless of background.

Dr. Harini Amarasuriya thanked China for their significant donation of school uniforms and clothing for all children in schools and Pirivenas by 2025, which will alleviate the financial burden on the government.

Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Madura Seneviratne, Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education Nalaka Kaluwewa, officials from the Embassy, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Aviation Services, along with other attendees participated in the event.


Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya expressed gratitude to the Chinese Government for providing school uniforms to every child in Sri Lanka for the year 2025. The uniforms are being donated as a grant by China, with the total fabric requirement of 11.817 million meters already provided in two shipments. The third shipment is scheduled to arrive on December 25th. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of education and the government’s commitment to providing equal access to education for all children. The event was attended by various government officials and Chinese Embassy representatives.
