Navy’s 1062nd RO plant inaugurated in Urumalai
The Sri Lanka Navy opened its 1062nd Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant on 11th December 2024 as part of its Naval Social Responsibility (NSR) project. The inauguration ceremony took place at St. Lawrence’s Church in Urumalai, Talaimannar, and was overseen by Commander North Central Naval Area, Rear Admiral Jagath Kumara.
Under the guidance of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, the Navy utilized its workforce and technical knowledge to build this much-needed facility. The collaborative project, funded by the Lion Nation Foundation (Guarantee) Limited and done in partnership with the Ministry of Health, addressed the critical need for safe drinking water.
This new RO plant will supply clean drinking water to the church’s followers and the local community. The ceremony was attended by the church’s priest, officers, sailors from the North Central Naval Command, and residents from the area.
