Strengthening economic ties between Sichuan Province and Sri Lanka to new heights
Highlighted during the meeting between the President and the Secretary of the Communist Party, Sichuan Province
President Anura Kumara Disanayake, currently on a four-day state visit to China, engaged in talks with Wang Xiaohui, Secretary of the Communist Party of China for Sichuan Province, this morning (17).
Chengdu, one of the happiest cities in China, serves as the capital of Sichuan Province and a bustling city where the rich blend of cultural heritage and development coexists, providing its residents with a high quality of life.
During the deliberations, both sides discussed the potential to enhance economic, trade, cultural, tourism, and intergovernmental ties between Sichuan and Sri Lanka to new levels. Sichuan’s notable accomplishments in various sectors, such as energy, were recognized, and the President encouraged the Secretary of the Sichuan province to share their knowledge and success stories with Sri Lanka.
President Disanayake stressed that Sri Lanka is currently focusing on stabilizing its economy under a transparent and investor-friendly government. He pointed out that the country is at a crucial political juncture, with the current administration enjoying a two-thirds majority support from a united population across all regions. The government is dedicated to meeting the expectations of its citizens.
Moreover, the President highlighted Sri Lanka’s appeal as a destination for Chinese tourists and warmly invited the people of Sichuan to explore the island and enjoy its exceptional hospitality.
Participating in the discussions were Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath and Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation Bimal Rathnayake.

The President highlighted Sri Lanka as an attractive destination for Chinese tourists. Ministers Vijitha Herath and Bimal Rathnayake were also present at the meeting. Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan, was praised for its blend of culture and development.
