National Road Safety Strategy as Part of the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ Initiative
A meeting to draft a nationwide road safety strategy under the “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative took place today (30) at the Presidential Secretariat.
Sri Lanka is experiencing an increase in road accidents, resulting in a higher number of deaths and injuries.
Acknowledging the critical need to enhance public awareness about accident prevention and instill disciplined road usage, this national strategy is being developed as a major component of the “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative.
The programme seeks to improve society by promoting social, environmental, and moral consciousness, emphasizing the creation of a disciplined society and responsible citizens.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Insurance Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka, the National Council on Road Safety, the Independent Television Network (ITN), representatives from the Ministry of Health and Mass Media (Social and Ethics Divisions), Dr. Indika Jagoda, Director of the National Hospital (Accident and Emergency Department), Prof. Sivakumar and Prof. H.R. Pasidu from the University of Moratuwa, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Traffic), and other pertinent officials.
A discussion was held at the Presidential Secretariat on preparing a national road safety plan under the “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative. With rising road accidents causing more fatalities and injuries in Sri Lanka, the plan aims to enhance public awareness and promote road discipline. The initiative seeks to uplift society by fostering social, environmental, and moral consciousness, with a focus on building a disciplined society and responsible citizens. Attendees included senior officials from the Insurance Regulatory Commission, National Council on Road Safety, Ministry of Health, and other relevant authorities, highlighting a collaborative approach to addressing road safety challenges.
