It is important to understand that you are getting where you are coming fromThe Sri Lankan at the entrance shows you a booklet with what is going to happen, turns the pages quickly and speaks in unclear EnglishHe explains to you that it is easy and it is only a 20 minute walkIt's important to note that it's really a 20-minute walk, but it's not just a walk, it's a serious ass-ripping from all directions, everything is stones, mud, sharp descents and ascents (sharpness means 180 degrees, not 90, not 40, there's only one direction, and that's down) no safety, and it's only you, God, and the Sri Lankan guide ( which was cute and all)It is indeed an experience in retrospect, but you just have to understand why they come and not believe the Sri Lankan at the entrance and certainly not listen to the tuktuk driver
This has to be one of the best things to do in the Ella area. The ticket price is 3000 rupees, its quite a lot but worth it because they provide a guide, a helmet and a headlamp. My guide was brilliant and made sure I navigated through the cave safely.The cave is huge inside, you can swim in the pool at the bottom which is so refreshing.
You gotta go see this place. Not for everyone though, please listen and follow directions given by the instructor's. Don't go hear of your are drunk, and don't ruin the place
An underground cave within a rocky mountain, bottom with clear water pond. To reach the bottom pond explorers have to walk 800m inside the cave. Its a 500m walk to reach the cave entrance from the ticketing point.Children under five & people with asthma & breathing difficulties will not be permitted to enter in to the cave. Highly qualified guide or more will be provided according to the explorer team. The guide who conducted us was very friendly, instructed us through each point to explore the cave safely. They have kept a life saving tyre & jacket at the bottom close to the pond in state of emergency. On high peak of the tourist season, two guides are kept fulltime near the pond for safety reasons.
After the adventurous trek, a bath in the fresh water pond is relaxing. 90 mins trek is just amazing. Don't miss this place. our guide Sunil was so helpful throughout.we did our trek in crocs, please wear shoes for better experience.
😁 Incredible experience!! If you like adventure and nature then I absolutely recommend this if you are visiting Ella, it is a highlight of my entire trip in Sri Lanka! You will pass Ravana waterfall on the way which you can stop at too.👌 We came via tuktuk and paid the entrance fee (3000 rupees) and this included a guide and head torch/helmet. You can leave your bags or belongings at the same place you buy your ticket. We then took a small hike through the forest to the entrance of the cave which was a bit of an adventure in itself 🙂 I would recommend to wear decent shoes especially if it has been raining, we did however see some locals come down in flip flops 🙂 Your clothes will more than likely also get dirty so dress accordingly, my light coloured top did get stained.🙏 Our guide was excellent and patient, he ensured our safety and provided lots of detailed information about the history of the cave and shared some mythology when I asked. It is not very physically demanding, especially if you take your time. The cave structure is really cool and it was my first type of adventure like this so I really enjoyed it, I did not feel claustrophobic at any point, of course this will vary from person to person, I did not feel that the gaps or spaces were too small or narrow for me and it really opens up as you get deeper, there are ladders and ropes to help with the descent.👏 After the descent down to the pool, another group left and we then had the entire place to ourselves! It was a really special time, I would recommend to turn all the lights off and be silent, its an interesting sensory experience and felt very unique. The water was not incredibly blue at the time we went there (November) as it depends of the rainfall, dry season/dry days will be clearer water and of course less slippery. Also be wary that there are some rocks, if you swim out a little you can swim down as its super deep!🙏The guides know the cave very well and venture through it many times, a tip is of course appreciated, they work hard and provide good service, ours also had a big light and took many photos and videos of us so a big thank you! There are some tight spaces, it can be slippery, there are bats, flies and insects, however, none of this would put me off from doing it again!Have fun! Ayubowan ❤
