Launch of new youth employment initiative scheduled for next year.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe announced that a program to provide jobs for young people will begin next year, with the aim of creating new employment opportunities in both the public and private sectors.
He mentioned that due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and economic downturn, it has been challenging to offer jobs to the youth of Sri Lanka in the past four years. However, with the country’s recovery from financial crisis, there is now an opportunity to progress by initiating programs that will generate new job opportunities.
President Wickremesinghe made these statements at a youth meeting titled “A Journey to a Bright Future” held today (02) at the Valampuri Hotel in Jaffna. A large number of youths attended the event.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe further highlighted that the government has always considered the aspirations of the youth.
He mentioned that, despite financial constraints, funds have been allocated this year to fill teacher vacancies, with a promise for increased funding next year for teacher recruitment. The President also mentioned the introduction of a subsidized loan system for young individuals interested in entrepreneurship, as well as plans to involve youth in the agricultural modernization program.
In response to some questions posed by the young attendees, he gave positive responses and took the opportunity to gather their feedback and engage in a friendly dialogue.
In reply to a question from one of the youth, President Ranil Wickremesinghe stated that he will encourage the private sector to hire individuals for jobs without requiring prior experience in the future.
Governor of the Northern Province P. S. M. Charles, State Ministers Dr. Suren Raghavan, K. Kader Masthan, MP Angajan Ramanathan, Senior Adviser on National Security and Chief of Presidential Staff Sagala Ratnayaka, Former Minister Ravi Karunanayake, Former State Minister Vijayakala Maheswaran, and a number of other guests also attended the event.
