Meeting between High Commissioner Sumangala Dias and Small and Medium Enterprises Associations (SAMENTA) of Malaysia

The High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Malaysia Air Chief Marshal (Rtd.) Sumangala Dias held a productive meeting with the Small and Medium Enterprises Association (SAMENTA) of Malaysia at the High Commission recently. 

This interaction marked an important milestone in strengthening the ties and networking between Sri Lankan business entities and Malaysian entrepreneurs.

Established in 1986, SAMENTA plays a crucial role in advocating for the interests of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Malaysia, which contribute significantly to the Malaysian economy. SMEs represent 98.5% of all enterprises in Malaysia, highlighting their importance in economic growth.

During the meeting, National President of SAMENTA Datuk William Ng expressed his organization’s excitement about the increasing presence of Sri Lankan businesses in Malaysia. He pledged SAMENTA’s support to help new Sri Lankan enterprises enhance their visibility in the Malaysian market.

High Commissioner Sumangala Dias stressed the importance of collaborative efforts to address the trade imbalance between the two countries, emphasizing the need to boost Sri Lankan exports to Malaysia and promote Sri Lanka as a key destination for Malaysian tourists.

Additionally, National Chairman Datuk William extended an invitation to Sri Lankan chambers and entrepreneurs to participate in the Small and Medium Enterprise Forum, slated to take place in October 2024 in Malaysia. This Forum is expected to create significant opportunities for Sri Lankan SMEs and the export sector in the Malaysian market.

SAMENTA expressed enthusiasm for increased Sri Lankan presence in Malaysia and invited Sri Lankan chambers and entrepreneurs to participate in a forum in 2024. This meeting aimed to enhance opportunities for Sri Lankan SMEs and the export sector in Malaysia.
