One of Sri Lanka’s most magnificent works of natural art is Bomburu Ella. It is also known as Perewella Ella and is situated in the Nuwara Eliya district’s Uva Paranagama. The largest waterfall in Sri Lanka is located here. It is a mix of numerous waterfalls and is estimated to be 50 meters high. The Uma River’s higher tributary, which is found in the middle highlands, enriches the fall.
The Seetha Eliya Kandanpola forest reserve, where Bomburu Ella is situated, is 15 kilometers from the town of Welimada. According to folklore, Seetha was secreted here after being kidnapped. This location is extremely important historically because of this mythology. It is also one of the most stunning sites, located not far from the boundary between the districts of Nuwara Eliya and Badulla.
Since the fall is 14 kilometers from Nuwara Eliya, it can be reached in 30 to 45 minutes. Traveling from Colombo, it can take you six hours to get here. Turning left at Rendapala Junction and traveling along the Nuwara Eliya-Welimada road is the best option.
The settlement is easily accessible by road, but you must engage in some minor climbing and hiking after that. You won’t get fatigued even though there is trekking and climbing because of the cool climate and green neighborhood. You can unwind while taking in the splendor of the woodland, which has been a favorite spot since the reign of King Rawana.
The view from the top of the fall is breathtaking and displays the beautiful splendor of nature. The neighborhood’s waterfall view, lush forests, rocks, and mountains serve as adequate proof of the alluring beauty of nature. Visitors are welcome to picnic and take a bath, but camping is not permitted.
Bomburu Ella serves the Sri Lankan nation much in addition to being used to glorify Nuwara Eliya. It delivers water to the inhabitants for their agriculture and serves as the powerhouse’s generator. These factors make Bomburu Ella a prized natural resource in Sri Lanka. As a result, fall is highly well-liked by both domestic and international travelers. The experience of swimming in a natural pool with a view of water cascading will stand out in your travel journal.
