Chinese New Year Celebration and Cultural Festival in Colombo With the Patronage of the Prime Minister
In conjunction with the Chinese New Year festival, the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka and the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism co-hosted a celebration in Colombo to commemorate the occasion. The opening ceremony was held on January 19 at the Cinnamon Life Hotel, with Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya in attendance as the chief guest.
During the event, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya shared a congratulatory message from President Anura Kumara Dissanayake for the Chinese New Year. The celebration was graced by former President Maithripala Sirisena, former Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, Industry Minister Sunil Handunnetti, Deputy Minister Finance and Planning Dr. Harshana Sooriyapperuma, along with other political leaders. Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong, Prime Minister’s Secretary Pradeep Saputhanthri, and a large number of Sri Lankan and Chinese citizens were also present.
As part of the New Year festivities, a special delegation consisting of 34 members from the Henan Art Troupe and the Sichuan Chef Team has arrived in Sri Lanka. The upcoming events include the “Chinese Food Festival” and the “Port City Chinese Cultural Night,” scheduled to be held from January 20 to 23.

The festivities will also include a Chinese Food Festival and Port City Chinese Cultural Night from January 20 to 23.
