Deduru Oya Basin under flood warning
A significant amount of rainfall has been reported in Up and mid stream areas of Deduru Oya as of 5.00 pm today. The Deduru Oya reservoir is currently overflowing at a rate of 16000 cubic feet per second. Based on this situation and the water levels of the hydrological stations in Deduru Oya, it has been warned that there is a potential for a flood in low-lying areas of Deduru Oya valley located in Wariyapola, Nikaveratiya, Mahawa, Kobeigane, Bingiriya, Pallama, Chillaw, Arachchikattuva, and Rasnayakapura DS Divisions.
Consequently, there is a high risk of flooding Off-Roads that pass through the flood plains of Deduru Oya. Residents in these areas and vehicle drivers passing through are urged to be vigilant. Disaster Management Authorities are urged to take necessary actions in response to this situation.
