Deputy Minister of Defence Honors ANZAC Memorial Ceremony
Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), paid homage at the ANZAC memorial monument during the annual ANZAC Day commemoration held yesterday (Apr 25) at the Jawatte Cemetery in Colombo 05.
The respectful ceremony also saw the presence of the High Commissioner of Australia, H.E. Mr. Paul Stephens and the High Commissioner of New Zealand, H.E. Mr. David Pine. They were joined by the U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka, H.E. Mrs. Julie Chung, along with the Tri Forces Chiefs of Staff, all of whom laid floral tributes to honour the fallen.
Held annually on April 25, ANZAC Day commemorates the first significant military operation by Australian and New Zealand forces during World War I, honoring all who have served and sacrificed in conflicts since then.
The ceremony was attended by religious leaders, members of the diplomatic corps, and senior officers of the Tri Forces, underscoring the solemnity and importance of the event.
