Discussion on appointing civil representatives to Constitutional Council to be held today

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardene says {that a} particular dialogue will probably be held immediately (Jan. 01) concerning the appointment of civil society representatives to the Constitutional Council.

The dialogue will probably be held on-line via video conferencing, the Speaker mentioned.

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardene and chief of the opposition, Sajith Premadasa can even reportedly participate within the related dialogue.

Earlier, it was introduced that the ultimate choice concerning the appointment of civil representatives to the Constitutional Council will probably be arrived at when the related council met on Thursday (Dec. 29), however the dialogue had ended with no settlement.

The Constitutional Council which was established by the twenty first Modification to the Structure consists of 10 members, while three civil representatives can even be appointed.

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said that functions had been known as from certified people, and practically 120 functions have been acquired to this point.

Three representatives will reportedly be appointed for the Constitutional Council following a research of the related functions and different certified people for the place, who haven’t submitted functions.

The names of the chosen individuals will probably be tabled within the Parliament for approval, after which the President will appoint them to the Constitutional Council.
