A GSP+ Monitoring Mission from the European Union visited the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment & Tourism Vijitha Herath yesterday (30) at the Foreign Ministry.

The Minister informed the EU delegation about the Government’s achievements since its election, focusing on efforts to combat bribery and corruption, and to enhance the democratic framework, human rights, and reconciliation process in the country. The delegation was also briefed on legislative reforms and other actions planned by the Government in this context.

Highlighting the longstanding partnership and cooperation between Sri Lanka and the EU in various sectors, Foreign Minister Herath expressed gratitude for the EU’s ongoing support, particularly in aiding Sri Lanka’s economic recovery. He emphasized that the EU is Sri Lanka’s second-largest export market, playing a crucial role in trade and development.

The EU delegation responded positively to Sri Lanka’s progress and reiterated their commitment to continue supporting the country’s reform efforts. Led by senior European Union officials, the EU delegation is visiting Sri Lanka to assess its progress in implementing the 27 conventions under the GSP+ trade preferences program.
