Fires Continue to Blaze and One Person Missing Following Tanker Collision
Fires continue to blaze on an oil tanker loaded with jet fuel and a cargo vessel carrying highly toxic chemicals following their collision in the North Sea on Monday morning.
One crew member remains missing, and the search has been halted, according to HM Coastguard.
The incident involved the US-registered Stena Immaculate, which was transporting fuel for the US military, and the Portuguese-flagged Solong.
Coastguard Divisional Commander Matthew Atkinson reported that 36 individuals had been rescued, with one person taken to the hospital. The missing crew member was aboard the Solong, he mentioned.
The Marine Accident Investigation Branch stated that a team of inspectors and support staff have begun collecting evidence and conducting a preliminary assessment to decide on their next steps.
