COLOMBO (Information 1st) – Sri Lanka’s Minister of Justice, Prisons Affairs and Constitutional Reforms Dr Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe instructed Parliament on Thursday (5) that the federal government won’t ever intervene with the operations of the Elections Fee.
“We won’t intervene with their (election fee) actions, and we won’t attempt to amend their agenda. We’ve by no means reached such a call and haven’t communicated to them of any such matter,” stated the Justice Minister.
He stated that the Nationwide Election Fee, which is an unbiased physique, should proceed with its operations, and there might be no interference from the federal government.
“With the help of the opposition we secured the passage of the twenty first Modification to the Structure that particulars the elections, the date of the elections, and the method of the elections. Thereby, it’s the unbiased Elections Fee that may act on these issues,” stated the Minister.
The Minister stated the federal government nor the parliament has the facility to amend any resolution made by the Elections Fee.
Minister Rajapakshe was responding issues raised by Opposition Chief Sajith Premadasa in Parliament.
