Inquiry should be made into children studying at an advanced level who are absent from school

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya emphasized the importance of investigating the absences of Advanced Level students and ensuring that every child has access to educational opportunities.

Dr. Amarasuriya made these comments while visiting the Maharagama National Institute of Education.

She expressed concern about the decreasing attendance of Advanced Level students, especially boys, and the rising dropout rates. Dr. Amarasuriya stressed the need for education to be inclusive and barrier-free, providing opportunities for higher education from early childhood through thirteen years of schooling. She also highlighted the significance of incorporating personal and social transformation into the educational system.

“Our government is committed to implementing educational reforms that will enable children to engage with the modern world and drive the social change desired by the people. We consider every investment in education as an investment in the country’s future, aiming to nurture responsible citizens. The National Institute of Education plays a vital role in this extensive and ongoing process,” she explained.

The Director General of the National Institute of Education, Professor Manjula Widanapathirana, along with Deputy Director Generals, Directors, and other officials were present at the event.
