JICA and EDB collaborate to showcase Sri Lankan ICT companies in the Japanese market
The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) is dedicated to advancing global trade and supporting the needs of exporters. EDB actively explores new markets and opportunities for technical partnerships, including collaborations with international organizations. One such partnership is with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), with a focus on enhancing Sri Lanka’s ICT/BPM sector by introducing local tech companies to the Japanese market. Through this collaboration, the goal is to promote knowledge sharing and cooperation beyond just economic advantages.
With the assistance of JICA, EDB has launched a project to support 30 SME ICT/BPM companies and startups from 2024 to 2025. The project includes services such as market intelligence, business coaching, and matchmaking.
JICA has deployed a team of consultants to offer technical guidance, work closely with Sri Lankan companies, and establish connections between the two tech ecosystems.
This year, the consultant team conducted two industry awareness sessions and two Training of Trainers (TOT) sessions for EDB officers. Individual consultations are ongoing with the selected companies, as they develop activity plans and seek out suitable Japanese partners while also translating promotional materials into Japanese.
During their visit to Sri Lanka in November, the consultants held around 30 individual meetings from November 19th to 21st, followed by a general awareness session on November 22nd at the JICA Sri Lanka office. The session was organized by the EDB, and was addressed by Mr. Mangala Wijesinghe, Chairman and CEO of the Sri Lanka Export Development Board, and Mr. Tetsuya Yamada, Chief Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency in Sri Lanka.
This collaboration between Sri Lanka and Japan highlights the importance of international partnerships, showcasing the potential for continued growth and knowledge exchange. It benefits both countries’ tech industries by encouraging innovation and creating new avenues for cooperation.
