Navy safely transports injured foreign national ashore for medical care
In a demonstration of prompt action, the Sri Lanka Navy today (20th April 2024) intervened to provide essential aid in transferring a foreign national who was injured while aboard the Merchant Vessel MARIMAN off the southern coast of Sri Lanka. The evacuation operation of the injured mariner was organized by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Colombo, as per the request of the Merchant Vessel. The patient was swiftly taken for immediate medical care upon arrival at the port of Hambantota by the Navy.
During an incident on MV MARIMAN traveling from Indonesia to Mumbai, India, a crew member of foreign nationality sustained two cut injuries on his left hand. This led to an urgent notification to the MRCC Colombo on the night of 19th April due to his critical condition.
In response to the emergency, the Navy deployed the Fast Attack Craft P 411 from the Southern Naval Command to the specified sea area to bring the patient to land. After safely transferring the patient from the vessel to the naval craft, he was brought to the port of Hambantota today (20th April) while receiving first aid. He was then promptly taken to a private hospital in Matara for medical treatment.
