Over the Last Two Years, President’s House Welcomed 35,000 Students

In the last two years, around 35,000 schoolchildren have had the chance to visit various educational landmarks in Colombo. These include the President’s House, the Presidential Secretariat in the Old Parliament Building, Harbour City, the Central Bank, the Parliament, and the Lotus Tower.

This initiative was started under the guidance of President Ranil Wickremesinghe and coordinated by the Secretary to the President Saman Ekanayake, with support from the Tri-Force Security Coordination Office of the Presidential secretariat. The program was a joint effort involving the Parliament of Sri Lanka, the Ministry of Education, and the National Youth Services Council.

During this educational trip, students were able to watch documentaries and see artifacts that showcase important moments in Sri Lanka’s democratic history. They also had the chance to interact with the President, the Secretary to the President, and other officials like the Chief of the Presidential Staff and Senior Adviser to the President on National Security, Sagala Ratnayaka.

Students from more than 160 schools from different parts of the island participated in this field trip, including those from remote areas. The program is still ongoing.

Additionally, at the President’s invitation, sessions of the Student Parliament and Youth Parliament were held in the Chamber Hall of the Old Parliament within the Presidential Secretariat. The aim is to help students enhance their leadership skills by gaining a deeper understanding of the governance system.

The sessions were overseen by President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Secretary to the President Saman Ekanayake, along with Speaker to the Parliament Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana, several Ministers, the Secretary General of the Parliament Kushani Rohanadeera, and Parliament staff.

Lectures were given to educate students on topics related to administration and government roles.
