Parliament of Sri Lanka launches a Parliamentary Internship Program

Parliament of Sri Lanka with the assistance of Nationwide Democratic Institute (NDI) and USAID launched a parliamentary internship program, providing youthful professionals and school college students with wise experience in protection development and public service.

This method was launched on March 1 in Parliament beneath the patronage of Speaker Hon. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, and Secretary Widespread of Parliament Mr. Dhammika Dasanayake, Chief of Employees and Deputy Secretary Widespread Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera and Assistant Secretary Widespread Mr. Tikiri Jayathilaka, Senior Resident Nation Director of the Nationwide Democratic Institute (NDI) Mrs. Thusitha Pilapitiya and a bunch of officers had been present. The Hon. Speaker delivered the keynote speech on the inauguration.

Following outreach efforts to all the nationwide universities in Sri Lanka, a bunch of interns was fastidiously chosen from the eight universities who responded. Accordingly, eight state Universities, notably, Colombo, Sri Jayawardenapura, Kelaniya, Peradeniya, Rajarata, Jaffna, Ruhuna, and Sabaragamuwa have collaborated for the internship program with a bunch of chosen 35 interns.

This method’s selection requirements and development assure an entire and tailored experience, with the curriculum designed to develop experience and knowledge for numerous career paths. NDI, in collaboration with the parliament, carried out a three-day residential orientation program geared towards providing a deeper notion into the intern operate. This method featured a lot of lessons overlaying legislative development, collaborating with Parliament, and diverse modes of interaction with Parliament. The heads of departments and sections of the Parliament carried out this method. This method concluded with a recap and evaluation session by school college students, adopted by an open dialogue the place interns had the possibility to raise questions.

Following a three-day orientation program, the interns have been allotted to their respective departments, and all by their internship interval, they will receive hands-on working experience with the Parliament of Sri Lanka.

This method’s curriculum promotes inclusivity, vary, and expertise development for numerous career paths. The initiative objectives to create goodwill ambassadors for parliament, cope with the assumption deficit between parliament and youth, promote democracy, and educate youthful people about Parliament of Sri Lanka. This method highlights the Parliament’s dedication to the Open Parliament Initiative and objectives to cope with the assumption deficit between Parliament and youth whereas safeguarding democracy.
