Pensions will be paid on time despite government employee strike.
Director General Jagath D. Dias stated that despite the ongoing strike by some public sector employees, the pensions for 708,231 registered pensioners scheduled for July 10th have been disbursed to the Banks today (09).
As per the announcement, a total of LKR 28.5 billion has been allocated to 24 public and private banks along with the Postal Department.
This means that nearly 99.5% of the pensioners will receive their pension on July 10 as planned. However, due to the temporary closure of Divisional Secretariats on July 08 and 09, about 13,000 pensioners will receive their payments on July 11th.

A total of LKR 28.5 billion was distributed to 24 public and private banks and the Postal Department. With this, 99.5% of pensioners will receive their payments on time. Due to the closure of Divisional Secretariats on July 8 and 9, around 13,000 pensioners will receive their payments on July 11. Despite some public sector strikes, efforts were made to ensure timely delivery of pensions to the majority of recipients.
