President Ranil Wickremesinghe has organized the formation of three special committees to address the security and economic challenges that Sri Lanka may face due to potential developments in the Middle East and globally, following the assassination of a Hamas political leader in Iran.

The Special Committee on National Security includes Minister of Public Security Tiran Alas, Minister of Foreign Affairs President’s Attorney Ali Sabry, Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera, and Chief of Presidential Staff and Senior Advisor to the President on National Security Sagala Ratnayaka.

The two committees are mandated to identify the initial steps to be taken and present their findings to the high-level committee for any necessary actions to mitigate potential impacts on Sri Lanka’s national security and economy stemming from unfolding events in the Middle East, particularly Iran, and globally.

The President has also instructed the two pertinent committees to ensure the continuous supply of fuel and essential goods, with minimal disruption to the public. These committees are required to submit their reports to the high-level committee, which will then make timely decisions based on the information provided.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe has created three special committees in response to potential security and economic pressures in Sri Lanka, driven by recent global events including the assassination of a Hamas political leader in Iran. The committees include a National Security Committee, an Economic Impact Assessment Committee, and a High-Level Oversight Committee.
