Prime Minister’s Office Launches Internal Affairs Unit to Ensure Corruption-Free Public Service
As per Circular No. PS/SB/Circular/2/2025 from the Secretary to the President, the Internal Affairs Unit of the Prime Minister’s Office was formally inaugurated yesterday (06) at Temple Trees, led by the Secretary to the Prime Minister, Mr. Pradeep Saputhanthri.
Thus, Mr. Ruwan Jayasundara, Additional Secretary (Administration), has been designated as the Head of the Internal Affairs Unit, with Ms. K.A.S. Shripali, the Administrative Officer, appointed as the Compliance Officer.
The Internal Affairs Unit is focused on ensuring the integrity of officials and promoting a corruption-free public service in Sri Lanka. It prioritizes introducing strong anti-corruption measures within the public sector, implementing the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) and other international anti-corruption conventions in line with Article 156 of the Constitution, and strategizing the Anti-Corruption Act No. 9 of 2023, along with the National Anti-Corruption Action Plan (2025–2029).
The goal is to be a pivotal point in Sri Lanka’s efforts to eradicate corruption in public institutions by fostering a culture of transparency, accountability, and integrity, thereby facilitating the delivery of effective and reliable government services to all citizens.
The Internal Affairs Unit’s expected duties include: preventing corruption within the institution and encouraging a culture of integrity; ensuring transparency and accountability in all organizational activities and guaranteeing public access to information related to institutional actions and decisions; promoting ethical governance; encouraging the reporting of misconduct; ensuring confidentiality; establishing a secure reporting mechanism; and assisting in law enforcement in collaboration with law enforcement agencies and the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.
Two complaint boxes have been installed at Temple Trees and the Prime Minister’s Office at Sirimathipaya for public grievances, suggestions, and allegations related to the Prime Minister’s Office.
