Sri Lankan Ambassador holds meeting with Thailand’s Department of International Trade Promotion Director General
Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe recently met with Director General of the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) of the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand, Sunanta Kangvalkulkij. Their discussion emphasized the strong and friendly bilateral relationship between Sri Lanka and Thailand, which is based on shared cultural, religious, and trade connections.
During the meeting, Ambassador Edirisinghe praised Thailand’s efforts in promoting international trade and highlighted the important role of the DITP in supporting Thai businesses globally.
She also mentioned Sri Lanka’s active participation in major Thai trade events like Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fairs, Thaifex Anuga, and Style Bangkok in 2025, showcasing the country’s commitment to strengthening trade relations. These events provide valuable opportunities to showcase Sri Lankan products, establish business partnerships, and enhance economic ties between the two nations.
Director General Sunanta Kangvalkulkij commended Sri Lanka’s involvement in key trade exhibitions and recognized the significant trade and tourism potential of Sri Lanka. Both parties acknowledged the potential for increased bilateral trade, especially with the upcoming Sri Lanka-Thailand Free Trade Agreement (FTA) scheduled to be implemented this year.
The meeting ended with a mutual commitment to utilize the Sri Lanka-Thailand FTA to create new opportunities and promote mutual economic growth.
