Sri Lanka’s dazzling performance at the Asian Village Festival in Singapore

Sri Lanka took part in the inaugural Asian Village Festival of Singapore as an official tourism partner, along with Indonesia and the Philippines. The festival, which took place from 03 to 06 October at the Singapore Expo, was organized by Shaabaz Pte Ltd in Singapore, with the aim of promoting Asian culture, food, and business all under one roof and creating business opportunities and prospects in the Asia region.

The lively event saw exhibitors and performers from Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, Indonesia, Singapore, and the Philippines showcasing their products and talents, drawing in more than 20,000 visitors.    

High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Singapore Senarath Dissanayake graced the event as the guest of honor on 03 October. The event was officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by High Commissioner Dissanayake, Founder of Shaabaz Pte Ltd, Abdul Malieq, and other dignitaries. Head of Chancery of the High Commission Ahamed Razee and Minister (Commercial) of the High Commission Yasantha Yaddehi accompanied the High Commissioner at the opening ceremony.

The Sri Lankan High Commission set up an engaging tourism promotional booth that showcased the country’s rich cultural heritage and abundant natural resources. A captivating performance by Sri Lankan traditional dancers provided a sensory experience for visitors on the opening day, drawing a large, enthusiastic crowd. Promotional videos highlighting Sri Lanka’s tourism were screened on a digital screen at the main stage of the event, and journalists from various YouTube channels and newspapers conducted interviews with the Minister (Commercial), helping to promote Sri Lanka’s tourism and culture to Singaporeans.

The High Commission staff interacted with visitors throughout the four-day event, providing information to potential travelers, including journalists, individual travelers, tour agents, and students who visited the Sri Lankan booth.
