Sri Lanka’s High Commission in Islamabad Hosts Delegation from Sri Lanka’s Defence Services Command and Staff College

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Islamabad received a 28-member delegation from the Defence Services Command and Staff College, Sri Lanka (DSCSC) on International Collaboration Study Package-2024. Commodore Sanjeewa Premarathna (Chief Instructor Navy Wing) led the delegation, which included six Directing Staff members, 20 Student Officers from tri-services of Sri Lanka, and an officer from the Malaysian Air Force. The visit took place from 2-11 September 2024 and was coordinated by the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Islamabad in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Joint Staff Headquarters of Pakistan, highlighting the strong diplomatic relations between the two countries.

A reception was hosted by the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Islamabad for the visiting delegation, as well as the High Commission staff and their spouses, at the High Commission premises. Acting High Commissioner Christy Ruban warmly welcomed the delegation, emphasizing the longstanding friendship and mutual respect between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. He noted the history of cooperation and collaboration between the two countries and stated that the delegation’s visit is a symbol of the enduring partnership that has been fostered over the years. The bilateral ties between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, encompassing trade, economic exchanges, cultural exchanges, and educational collaborations, have always been characterized by solidarity and a shared vision, he added.

During their stay in Pakistan, the delegation visited various key institutions and locations including the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Service Headquarters, Command and Staff Colleges, National Defence University, defense equipment manufacturing institutions, industrial zones, and cultural and religious sites.

This visit is a significant annual event in the DSCSC calendar, aimed at providing college undergraduates with the opportunity to engage in a military diplomatic mission, enhance their understanding of the Pakistan military, foreign affairs, and diplomacy, and strengthen the camaraderie between the armed forces of the two countries.
