The Importance of Developing Inner Discipline for the Scout Movement and the Country
Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya emphasized the importance of having discipline on the inside, not just outwardly, and highlighted the significance of the disciplined attitude within the Scout Movement for the country.
Speaking at the “National Scout Awards Ceremony – 2024” organized by the Sri Lanka Scout Association at Temple Trees, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya stated the following.
A total of 574 adult scout leaders from various parts of Sri Lanka, who have dedicated more than 05 years as volunteers to the Sri Lanka Scout Movement, were honored at the event. Additionally, 11 “INTERNATIONAL FRIENDSHIP AWARDS” were presented to Scout Commissioners from other countries in order to strengthen international relations.
Plaques of recognition were awarded to the armed forces and 09 government and non-government organizations that support the Scout Movement. The highest honor, the ’Silver Lion’, was conferred upon eight individuals during the ceremony.
The event was attended by Prime Minister’s Secretary Saputhanthri, Secretary to the Ministry of Education Nalaka Kaluwewa, Chief Scout Commissioner of the Sri Lanka Scout Association Attorney Janaprith Fernando, as well as numerous local and foreign guests.

Plaques of appreciation were given to supporters of the Scout Movement, and the highest award, the ‘Silver Lion’, was awarded to eight individuals. The ceremony was attended by various officials, including the Prime Minister’s Secretary and the Chief Scout Commissioner.
