I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the restaurant inside the hotel Kandy House in Kandy, Sri Lanka.I had an unforgettable New Year’s dinner at this restaurant where everything, from start to finish, was exceptional. The service was delightful—friendly, attentive, and highly professional. To top it off, we enjoyed a mesmerizing traditional Sri Lankan dance performance, which added a magical touch to the evening. The meal itself was a true culinary journey. We began with some delicious appetizers, followed by a heartwarming roasted red pepper and tomato soup. Next came a perfectly cooked and seasoned grilled garlic tiger prawn with avocado salad, which was simply divine.A refreshing pomegranate and lime mint sorbet provided a smooth transition to the main course, a baked fresh salmon soufflé served with couscous, pomegranate, and a delightful salad. The salmon was cooked to perfection. This was complemented by a side of roasted fruit vegetables paired with fresh basil pesto and l blue cheese crumbles—an intriguing and flavorful combination. To end the evening, we enjoyed a strawberry and orange cheesecake with blackberry compote—an explosion of flavors that was both creative and satisfying. Alongside tea, liqueur chocolates were served, which, though I didn’t try, looked beautifully presented. This restaurant is highly recommended, both for its food and the exceptional experience it offers. The hotel itself, housed in a 200-year-old building steeped in history, also looks magnificent. While I didn’t stay overnight, it’s worth considering for a complete experience. A must-visit for anyone in the area!

This is a lovely, unique, boutique hotel away from the bustle of Kandy. The rooms are excellent - authentically colonial, but also mosquito proof. The food on our terrace was delicious and served with care.

The house is absolutely beautiful and we had some of the best curries here we’ve had! The staff were also very welcoming. Would highly recommend coming for a night if you’re around Kandy as it offers a sanctuary from the busy city without being too far away.

We loved this beautiful, historic colonial style house. Driving in through the gates brought us to a tranquil oasis from the frantic business of Kandy City. The staff were wonderful & the food was fantastic. The hotel was quiet so we were given a room upgrade to a beautiful suite overlooking the gardens & pool. We did miss having tea making facilities in the room & earplugs are definitely recommended because although grounds are quiet the surrounding area can be noisy with dogs barking & evening & 5am calls to prayer from a nearby mosque. Overall though a beautiful place to stay and my favourite was breakfast served to us on our room side veranda. So relaxing.

Amazing location for this boutique hotel, with great proximity of wildlife! Over breakfast I saw a family of macaque, a mongoose and a deer without having to get up from my table! Great food, and it was very pampering to have a personal butler for my one night stay. The hotel is a converted residence which made the property feel very cozy. The food and service were wonderful. The stay would have been absolutely perfect except for a few minor things regarding the room itself: 1) more power outlets for personal device charging (a power strip would help a lot so as to not unplug lamps), 2) ready availability or a list of amenities available (such as shower caps and dental kits), and 3) a better plug for the bathtub as mine leaked water - combined with limited hot water resulted in a sub par soak. Great for one night as you explore Sri Lanka!
