Tri-Forces Support for Paddy Buying in Maha Season
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has directed the Ministry of Defence to enhance infrastructure facilities and provide technical assistance and labor support from the Tri-Forces for the repair of warehouses belonging to the Paddy Marketing Board (PMB) and Sathosa in preparation for the upcoming Maha season.
A coordination meeting regarding this matter took place on the 16th at the Hector Kobbekaduwa Agricultural Research and Training Institute in Colombo, under the supervision of Deputy Minister Namal Karunaratne. The participants discussed utilizing the expertise and resources of the Tri-Forces for the renovation work in the warehouses.
The Ministry of Defence has committed to assisting in completing the renovations before the end of the month, in time for the Maha season’s paddy purchasing. Security arrangements for the warehouse premises will also be put in place. These actions are part of the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ initiative.
The PMD has a total of 209 warehouses nationwide, while Sathosa operates 12 warehouses. Officials also addressed the existing issues in these facilities, outlined necessary steps, and discussed future plans.
The discussion was attended by PMD officials, including Chairman Manjula Pinnalanda and CEO Professor A L Rajaguru, as well as Regional Managers, Major General Dinesh Udugama from the Sri Lanka Army General Staff Branch, senior Tri Forces officers, and representatives from the Ministry of Defence.
