“Vesak Bhakti Gee Saraniya” Begins at the Presidential Secretariat

The “Vesak Bhakti Gee Saraniya” (Vesak Bakthi Ghee recital) started at 6:30 p.m. yesterday (12) at the Presidential Secretariat. The event runs alongside the Buddha Rashmi Vesak Zone, co-organized by the Hunupitiya Gangaramaya Temple, the Presidential Secretariat, and the Prime Minister’s Office.

The program includes Bakthi Ghee performances by choirs from the Sri Lanka Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, and Civil Security Department, along with renowned vocalists from around the island. These performances will continue on 13, 14, and 15 May at the Presidential Secretariat.

Alongside these celebrations, a dansala (almsgiving), spearheaded by the Presidential Secretariat and the Sri Lanka Army, also began yesterday close to the Secretariat. A large gathering of devotees from across the nation participated. The dansala will proceed today (13).

Moreover, a short-eats dansala for those arriving in Colombo to enjoy the Vesak festivities began yesterday (12) near the Presidential Secretariat and will continue until 16 May.

With the support of the Presidential Secretariat, various Vesak programs have been arranged around the Gangaramaya Buddha Rashmi Vesak Zone and the Bauddhaloka Vesak Zone. These include decorative lighting of the Secretariat premises, adjacent buildings, and roads, along with Vesak lantern exhibitions. The staff of the Presidential Secretariat have actively engaged in these activities.


The “Vesak Bhakti Gee Saraniya” event began at the Presidential Secretariat, coinciding with the Buddha Rashmi Vesak Zone, organized by the Hunupitiya Gangaramaya Temple, the Presidential Secretariat, and the Prime Minister’s Office. Featuring Bakthi Ghee performances by choirs from the military and police, along with popular vocalists, the event runs from May 13-15. A dansala, co-organized by the Presidential Secretariat and Sri Lanka Army, began with wide participation. A short-eats dansala is also available until May 16. Various Vesak programmes, including decorative lighting and lantern exhibitions, are organized under the Presidential Secretariat’s patronage.
