Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya emphasized that young professionals of today need to engage more actively in issues of national significance.

These comments were made by the Prime Minister at the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Organization of Professional Associations of Sri Lanka (OPASL), held on the 29th at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall.

During the celebration, senior OPASL members were honored, and a commemorative stamp for the 50th anniversary was issued, with the Prime Minister in attendance.

In her speech, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya noted that OPASL has spent five decades uniting the professional community of Sri Lanka, turning their expertise and ideas into a united voice. The organization’s strength comes from its vast and multidisciplinary nature, as it represents 52 member associations spread across 34 professions with around 60,000 professionals. This makes OPASL a vital entity in Sri Lanka’s professional domain.

She further expressed that OPASL serves not just as an organization but as a platform linking diverse sectors united by a commitment to professional standards and national development.

The Prime Minister highlighted the critical contributions of professionals in engineering, medicine, law, and urban planning to the nation’s progress. Their technical knowledge, ethical standards, and vision are essential for sustainable and equitable development.

In a time of transformative change for Sri Lanka, the Prime Minister stressed the significant role organizations like OPASL can play in fostering innovative ideas and encouraging meaningful discussions.

She confirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening youth professional forums and encouraging young professionals to take a proactive role in national matters.

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya also pointed out the importance of the younger generation understanding their broader responsibilities. Through mentorship, upholding ethical standards, and fostering collective leadership, Sri Lanka’s professional community can continue guiding the nation forward.

The event was attended by notable figures such as Supreme Court Judge Sobhitha Rajakaruna, former Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, President of the OPASL Attorney-at-Law Sujeewa Lal Dahanayake, General Secretary to OPASL Thisara de Silva, and many professionals.
